Corporate Research and Development for Electronic Dimming Fluorescent Ballasts

Tasks Involved:

• Fundamental research in fluorescent bulb ignition and control.
• Both analog and digital signal processing control loops investigated.
• Goals: high power factor, low harmonic content, even lamp dimming from full bright to black, low fabrication costs for high volume manufacturing, etc.
• Designed and had fabricated two (2) special custom analog/digital integrated circuits for dimming ballast applications:
• Pulse Width Modulation Controller, fabricated by Micro-Linear Corp.
• High Voltage CMOS Half-Bridge Driver Set, fabricated by Power Integrations Corp.
